Short answer: English-taught degrees in Serbia list tuition of about EUR 2,300 to 3,900 a year for business and economics, and EUR 6,000 to 7,000 for medicine and dental medicine at the public faculties we checked (2026-27 admission). The University of Belgrade estimates living costs in Belgrade at EUR 600 to 800 a month, including accommodation and health insurance. Add one-time costs such as the visa D fee (EUR 52) and the temporary residence permit (about EUR 160).

Tuition fees in Serbia for Indian students (2026-27)

Serbian universities set their own fees for foreign citizens, programme by programme. Here is what the official university pages show:

  • Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad: Medicine in English and Dental Medicine in English, EUR 7,000 tuition listed for 2026-27 admission (foreign citizens).
  • Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Kragujevac: Integrated Academic Studies of Medicine in English, EUR 6,000 tuition for foreign citizens, with a first instalment of EUR 3,000 at enrolment and an entrance exam fee of EUR 100 (2026 enrolment notice).
  • Singidunum University, Belgrade (private): Business Economics in English, EUR 3,900 for 60 ECTS (one study year), paid in Serbian dinars.
  • Faculty of Economics, University of Kragujevac: undergraduate studies in English, EUR 2,300 for foreign citizens (page last updated December 2023, so check the current fee).

The University of Belgrade does not publish one fee for all programmes: each of its faculties sets its own, so check the faculty page for the course you want. Budget an extra EUR 100 to 300 a year for textbooks and study material (University of Belgrade estimate).

Is education free in Serbia for Indian students?

No. As a self-financed foreign student you pay the tuition fee the faculty lists for foreign citizens, as shown above. Scholarships for foreign students are few and change from year to year, so do not plan your budget around one.

Cost of living in Serbia for international students

The University of Belgrade's official cost-of-living page gives these figures for Belgrade:

  • Total: EUR 600 to 800 a month per person, covering accommodation, health insurance, utilities, meals, city transport and personal costs (textbooks not included).
  • Student dormitory for foreign citizens: EUR 14 a day in a triple room, EUR 18 in a double and EUR 27 in a single, utilities included, plus a local tax of about EUR 1.5 a day.
  • Shared flat for two: EUR 350 to 400 rent plus EUR 120 to 180 utilities.
  • Public transport: a student monthly pass costs EUR 15 (EUR 25 for a regular monthly pass).
  • Health insurance: EUR 66 a month for foreign students.

Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac are smaller cities and are usually cheaper than Belgrade, but we did not find an official figure for them. Plan with the Belgrade estimate and treat any saving as a bonus.

One-time costs before and after you land

  • Visa D (long stay): EUR 52, from the price list of the Embassy of Serbia in New Delhi. You can also apply online through the Serbian government's e-consulate system and pay at the last step.
  • Temporary residence permit: about EUR 160 for the one-year process at the police in Belgrade (University of Belgrade transition pack for 2026-27). Apply after you arrive, before your visa runs out.
  • Entrance exam or application fee: for example EUR 100 for medicine at Kragujevac.
  • Documents: certified translation and recognition of your Class 12 or degree certificates, plus apostille. Costs depend on the number of documents.
  • Flights from Delhi or Amritsar to Belgrade, which vary by season.

How much money do you need to show for the Serbian student visa?

The visa D checklist on welcometoserbia.gov.rs (updated 24 October 2026) asks for proof of financial means for your living costs, proof of valid health insurance, an invitation letter, the university's registration certificate, your enrolment certificate and your previous education certificates with certified translation. The official page does not fix one amount for students, and the embassy can ask for more documents. Show enough to cover your first year's fees and the living costs above, from a bank account in your own or your parents' name.

Can you work part-time in Serbia to cover costs?

Only with the right papers. According to the official Study in Serbia portal, a foreign student needs a temporary residence permit and a work permit from the National Employment Service; work permits are issued for 3 to 12 months. Do not count on part-time income to pay tuition or living costs, especially in the first year when classes and the language are new.

Cost of studying in Serbia compared with other options

Most of the saving in Serbia is on tuition: the English-taught fees above are low for Europe, while living costs in Belgrade (EUR 600 to 800 a month) are similar to many other European cities, so budget carefully for them. Serbia is not in the European Union (it is an EU candidate country), so a Serbian residence permit does not give you the right to live or work in EU countries.
