Short answer: If you live in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or elsewhere in the UAE, you can prepare for IELTS with our live online classes in a batch that fits UAE time: the 8:30 PM IST batch starts at 7:00 PM in Dubai, and the 7:30 AM IST batch at 6:00 AM. Choose IELTS Academic for university admission (in the UAE or abroad) and IELTS General Training for migration, such as Canada Express Entry.

Last checked: 29 October 2026, on the websites of IRCC, the Australian Department of Home Affairs, GOV.UK and Abu Dhabi University.

Which IELTS do UAE residents usually need?

  • University in the UAE: universities set their own English rules. For example, Abu Dhabi University accepts IELTS, Pearson PTE, TOEFL, EmSAT and Cambridge results for undergraduate admission, with IELTS or TOEFL taken no more than two years before admission.
  • Canada PR from the UAE: IRCC accepts the IELTS General Training option (not Academic) for Express Entry, and results must be less than 2 years old.
  • Australia: for "Competent English", Home Affairs asks for at least 6 in each IELTS component (Academic or General Training) for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, normally within the 3 years before you apply.
  • UK visas: routes that need a Secure English Language Test accept IELTS for UKVI, according to GOV.UK.

Always confirm the exact test and score with your university, employer or the immigration authority.
