Short answer: Learning French online is one of the strongest ways to add points to a Canada Express Entry profile. IRCC gives up to 50 additional CRS points when you score NCLC 7 or higher in all four French skills on TEF Canada or TCF Canada and CLB 5 or higher in English. Our live online French programme takes you from Basic through B2 and TEF preparation, with batches in Indian and Canadian Eastern time.
Last checked: 29 October 2026, on the websites of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Institut Français en Inde.
Why French matters for Canada PR
- Additional CRS points: 25 points for NCLC 7 or higher in all four French skills with English at CLB 4 or lower (or no English test); 50 points for NCLC 7 or higher in French plus CLB 5 or higher in all four English skills.
- Approved French tests: IRCC accepts TEF Canada and TCF Canada for Express Entry. Results must be less than 2 years old.
- French plus English: the full 50 points need both strong French and CLB 5 or higher in English, so preparing both gives the biggest boost.
Which French exam should you take?
- TEF Canada or TCF Canada: for Canadian permanent residence and citizenship applications; valid for 2 years.
- TEF Québec or TCF Québec: for immigration to Québec.
- DELF (A1–B2) and DALF (C1–C2): French diplomas for study and work; the Institut Français en Inde says they are valid for life.
- TCF Tout Public: often used for applications to French universities.
