Short answer: Online PTE coaching works best when AI-scored practice is combined with live lessons from a trainer. Choose the right PTE test first: PTE Academic for university study worldwide and for Australian and New Zealand visas, PTE Academic UKVI for UK visa routes that need a Secure English Language Test, and PTE Core for Canada's Express Entry. Our live online PTE Academic programme covers all 12 question types and is open to students in India, the UAE, Asia, Australia, the UK and Canada.

Last checked: 29 October 2026, on the websites of Pearson PTE, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), GOV.UK and Study Australia.

Which PTE test do you need?

  • PTE Academic: Pearson positions it for global study, visa applications to Australia and New Zealand, and professional registration. Study Australia lists PTE Academic among the tests accepted for the Student visa (subclass 500).
  • PTE Academic UKVI: GOV.UK lists Pearson's "PTE Academic UKVI" as an approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) for UK visa routes such as Student and Skilled Worker.
  • PTE Core: IRCC accepts the PTE Core option for Express Entry, not PTE Academic. Results must be less than 2 years old.

Pearson says PTE tests are accepted for visa applications by the Australian, Canadian, UK and New Zealand governments, and by 100% of Australian universities. Always confirm the exact test and score with the organisation you are applying to.

How PTE is different from IELTS

PTE is taken on a computer and scored by automated systems, so timing and technique matter as much as English. Question types such as Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image and Write from Dictation reward clear, fluent answers given within strict time limits. Many students prefer PTE for this reason; others prefer IELTS's face-to-face speaking test. A short demo class can help you decide.
